| You
don't need a lot of of
complicated, expensive
camera and lighting
equipment to take good
photographs ... |
Any camera
in good working order can
be used with excellent
results.
Tips
on buying a camera
- Do you want
the compactness and
convenience of a range
finder or the greater
picture taking potential
of a single-lens-reflex?
If you want
to experiment with lenses
you should choose an SLR.
- Do you want
an automatic or manually
operated model?
Automatics
leave you free to
concentrate on your
subject and composition
while manuals give you
more control.
- Research the
various models, talk to
photographers.
- With SLR's
be certain that the
lenses and other
accessories you might
want are not phased out.
- After
narrowing down your
choices, check out the
actual cameras.
- Are the
controls easy to operate,
is the viewfinder
sufficiently bright for
easy focusing.

Getting
the best out of your
camera
Effective photos are not
the result of lucky
snapshots.
Always
select your location and
consider the direction of
any natural light
(sunlight).
Select the subjects
clothing - bright solid
colors best.
Rehearse the activity if
possible consider where
your subject looks, the
specific activity and
your camera angle.
Fill in flash is useful
to lighten shadow areas,
while an exposure of
1/125 is also useful to
stop moderate movement of
the subject towards the
camera.
With some sport
photography and during
actual games rehearsals
are not possible.
Good
pictures in this case are
a combined function of a
long focal lens, a high
shutter speed, a good
vantage point with some
luck and timing.
A motor driven camera is
useful and with a
telephoto lens you will
need to prefocus.
Panning with moving
subjects is a technique
that provides an
interesting effect of a
sharp subject against a
horizontally blurred
background, this tend to
intensify the impression
of very high speed.
It is done
using a relatively slow
exposure 1/60 and by
following or panning the
moving subject
synchronously with your
camera.
Panning is best for
subjects moving directly
across your field of view
e.g. for racing cars
boats etc.

General
Camera and Film Care
Leaving your camera in
your car if your car is
parked in the sun can
ruin both your film and
camera due to heat
damage.
Film must be protected
from heat and is best
protected by dry thermal
insulated containers
